Avalanche (1972-1988)
Some verses in the original poem are somehow different from the sung verses of 1972.

Second Stanza

The cripple that you clothe and feed
Is neither starve nor cold
I do not beg for company
In the centre of the world

Fifth stanza

I have begun to claim you
I who have no greed
I have begun to long for you
I who have no need
The avalanche you're knocking at
Is unhabited

Modified verses

First Stanza

You who wish to conquer pain
You must learn what makes me well

last stanza

It is your turn beloved
It is your flesh that I wear
It is your world beloved
It is your flesh that I wear
It is your song beloved
It is your flesh that I wear

Modified verses

I have begun to long for you
I who have no need
I have begun to wait for you
I who rule the seven seas
